QUICK TIPS

1. Be consistent with your use of first-person pronouns (“I/me” vs “we/us”).

If you’re just a solo photographer promoting your work on the site, be honest and use singular pronouns.

It’s dishonest to use “we” just to make it sounds like you’re a company. In fact, you might be doing more bad than good: many clients prefer the personal touch of an individual freelancer than having to deal with a company.

2. List out some of your favorite things in life on your About page.

Or a list of fun facts about yourself.

Setting a funnier mood is great, but beware of crossing the border into unprofessional.

DEEP DIVE

The state of the photography industry

Not getting enough inquiries or sales? Are you constantly under-priced by your competition? Sick of struggling and knowing that you need to change something?

Amateurs are buying a DSLR (or even using their smartphones) and immediately calling themselves “photographers”. And they’re charging too little. The entire photography industry is saturated, and it’s harder than ever to get more clients.

But photographers who understand how to differentiate their business and adjust their online presence accordingly, are finding it easier than ever to get clients (that are happy to pay them what they’re worth).
